The XEQ (XAI Experience Quality) Scale helps measure the user experience of interacting with AI explanations. Psychometrically validated, free to use, and available to try online or download for your research and development needs.

What is the XEQ Scale?

The XEQ Scale is a tool for measurement of XAI experiences across four key dimensions: Learning, Utility, Fulfilment, and Engagement.

Learning

The extent to which the experience develops knowledge or competence.

Utility

The contribution of the experience towards task completion.

Fulfilment

The degree to which the experience supports the achievement of XAI goals.

Engagement

The quality of the interaction between the user and the XAI system.

Improving the AI Experience

Collecting XEQ scores from users allows AI system designers to detect areas for improvement, leading to more refined, trustworthy, and useful AI experiences.
